There are things you want out of life. If you don't have what you want, then the way you traditionally live isn't getting you what you want. The reason you don't have it, is because you're doing something wrong. So generally speaking, to get what you want, you have to change.
Getting what you want doesn't happen from doing something once. You don't get strong by going to the gym once. If you want to be healthy, you live healthy. If you want to be strong, you practice getting stronger.
1. If you want to get what you want, you have to change.
2. It's enough to do it once. You have to practice, and in the practicing you change, and when you change in the right direction, you get what you want.
There are a couple of options: either you're living in such a way that you more or less stay the same, or you're living in such a way that you're decreasing your chances of getting what you want, or you're living in such a way that you're making your chances better.
If there is something you really really want, then the way you lived your life so far is guaranteeing that you won't get it.
